They must also comply with state requirements for registering and maintaining vehicles by testing combustion control, safety, and engine function, and making sure all components meet control standards.

On a typical day, tasks might include:
• Performing tests on various vehicle components
• Handling preventive maintenance including oil changes, wheel balancing, tire rotation, and engine tune-ups
• Removing or installing filters and replacing tires.
